Abstract

Background: Nowadays, work related stress appears to affect almost all people with connected clinical works. The purpose of this research was to study the relationships of work stress and work engagement with the satisfaction from lives of nurses in Ahvaz governmental hospitals.

Material and methods: A correlation study was carried out. Nurses from governmental hospitals were selected and statistical sample universe was developed. From this universe, a total of 128 nurses were selected by multistage random sampling method. Work Engagement Scale, Satisfaction with Life, and Nursing Stress questionnaires were used to collect the required data. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods (simple correlation and regression) and SPSS software were used for data analysis.

Results: The results showed that there were significant correlations between work engagement and work stress with life satisfaction. All subscales of Work Engagement Scale had significant positive correlation with the nurses life satisfaction. Among nursing stress subscales, the variables of inadequate emotional preparation and patients' death didn't have any significant correlation with satisfaction from life. The other subscales had negative correlation with life satisfaction. Regression analysis results that the dedication to patients' variables were able to predict %31 of variance of life satisfaction.
